8. Customer cancellations, no-shows, late arrivals, and missing documents
This section applies when a guest cancels, arrives late, does not show up, or cannot participate because required documents, medical forms, certification proof, doctor's approval, payment, or other required information are missing.
Cancellation timing is measured from the scheduled start time of the first booked activity, unless otherwise stated in writing.
Unless a different written cancellation policy has been agreed, the following cancellation fees apply:
| Cancellation timing | Cancellation fee |
|---|---|
| More than 30 days before the activity | 0% |
| 15-30 days before the activity | 25% |
| 8-14 days before the activity | 50% |
| 0-7 days before the activity | 100% |
No-shows are not eligible for a refund or future credit.
Failure to arrive on time, resulting in missing a boat departure, guided dive, night dive, course, group activity, or other scheduled activity, is not eligible for a refund or future credit.
Once a guest has arrived on Bonaire, the cancellation policy changes to a 24-hour cancellation policy.
Activities scheduled within 24 hours of the requested cancellation time are not eligible for a refund.
Activities scheduled more than 24 hours after the requested cancellation time may be refunded or rescheduled, subject to availability and the applicable cancellation policy.
If an activity is cancelled within 24 hours and Dive Friends Bonaire reschedules it as a courtesy to the guest, the rescheduled activity is not eligible for a refund if the guest cancels again later.
Rescheduling after a late arrival, missed departure, or cancellation within 24 hours is subject to availability. Reservation & Planning employees have final operational authority over rescheduling decisions.
If a guest requests to reschedule an activity within 24 hours of the scheduled start time, Dive Friends Bonaire may treat this as a late cancellation, and the guest may be required to pay again for the rescheduled activity.
If a guest arrives without a completed medical form, required doctor's approval, required certification proof, required check-in documents, or other required documentation, the guest may not be able to participate. In that case, refunds will not be possible unless Dive Friends Bonaire expressly decides otherwise in writing.
Rescheduling after failing to arrive with a completed medical form, required doctor's approval, required certification proof, required check-in documents, or other required documentation, is subject to availability. Reservation & Planning employees have final operational authority over rescheduling decisions.
9. Dive Friends Bonaire cancellations, weather, safety, and force majeure
Dive Friends Bonaire may cancel, postpone, alter, reschedule, change the dive site, change the vessel, change the guide or instructor, change the schedule, or modify an activity due to weather, sea conditions, safety concerns, visibility, current, equipment issues, vessel issues, staffing limitations, medical concerns, marine park restrictions, government restrictions, operational issues, or other circumstances outside its reasonable control.
Weather and safety cancellations are rare on Bonaire. If Dive Friends Bonaire must cancel, postpone, or reschedule an activity for weather, safety, or operational reasons, Dive Friends Bonaire will determine a reasonable solution based on the service type, circumstances, availability, safety considerations, and any applicable policy. This may include rescheduling, credit, refund, partial refund, or another reasonable solution.
Dive Friends Bonaire is not liable for additional costs, losses, missed connections, travel changes, accommodation costs, transportation costs, or other expenses resulting from cancellations, rescheduling, delays, or changes caused by weather, safety, operational issues, force majeure, or circumstances outside its reasonable control.

- liability release forms;
- rental agreements;
- training agency forms;

- activity-specific acknowledgements or instructions.
Participation, rental, training, boat access, tank rental, or other services may be refused if required documents are incomplete, inaccurate, missing, expired, or not accepted by Dive Friends Bonaire.
Dive Friends Bonaire may refuse participation if the guest does not meet the requirements for the booked activity or if Dive Friends Bonaire considers participation unsafe, unsuitable, or not permitted under applicable standards, rules, or policies.
11. Eligibility, certification, age limits, and experience
Guests must be suitably qualified, certified, medically fit, and experienced for the activity they book or participate in.
Dive Friends Bonaire reserves the right to verify and confirm the certification level, training history, experience, age, and suitability of every guest. Guests must present valid certification credentials when requested.
Guests must dive within the limits of their certification, training, age, experience, physical ability, equipment, local rules, and the instructions of Dive Friends Bonaire staff.
Dive Friends Bonaire may impose stricter limits than a guest's certification level where staff consider this necessary for safety, operational, environmental, or training reasons.
Dive Friends Bonaire applies PADI standards for certification-based and age-based depth limits unless a stricter rule, training agency standard, local rule, instructor decision, or staff decision applies.

Dive Friends Bonaire staff are not medical professionals and cannot provide medical advice.
Dive Friends Bonaire may refuse or stop participation if a guest appears medically unfit, unsafe, impaired, or unable to participate safely.
Missing medical forms or required doctor's approval may result in refusal of participation and loss of refund rights as described in Section 8.
13. Alcohol, drugs, and medication
Guests must not dive, snorkel, swim, boat, train, rent equipment for use, or participate in any activity while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that may impair judgment, coordination, alertness, reaction time, physical ability, or safety.
Dive Friends Bonaire may refuse participation, rental, tank use, boat access, training, or other services if a guest appears impaired or unsafe to participate.
14. Orientation dive / buoyancy check
Orientation dives, also known as buoyancy checks, are required under current STINAPA diving rules/guidelines and Dive Friends Bonaire policy.
Upon making a reservation, Dive Friends Bonaire staff will help guests plan their orientation dive and prepare for the rest of their dive trip.
Guests must complete check-in and the required orientation/buoyancy check before independent diving, before participating in boat dives, non-house reef guided shore dives and courses (excl beginner courses) unless Dive Friends Bonaire confirms otherwise in writing.
The reservation confirmation will state the assigned check-in and orientation dive location and time.
Dive Friends Bonaire may suspend tank rental, equipment rental, boat diving, shore diving, or other services until the required orientation/buoyancy check has been completed.
15. Diving rules, safety, and solo diving
Guests must follow all briefings, instructions, rules, and directions given by Dive Friends Bonaire staff, instructors, dive guides, boat captains, crew, and front desk or other employees.

Dive Friends Bonaire may change dive sites, routes, schedules, procedures, depth limits, buddy requirements, or participation requirements due to safety, weather, sea conditions, current, visibility, marine park rules, equipment issues, or staff judgment.
Marine life sightings, dive sites, visibility, sea conditions, and underwater experiences are not guaranteed.
Solo diving is only allowed for divers who hold appropriate solo/self-reliant diving certification and who have the required training, experience, and equipment to conduct solo dives safely.
Dive Friends Bonaire strictly forbids solo diving with Dive Friends Bonaire equipment by any person who does not have the credentials to do so.
Dive Friends Bonaire reserves the right to deny equipment rental, tank rental, shore diving, boat diving, or any other service to any guest who intends to dive outside their certification, training, equipment, or safety limits.
16. Boat dive policies

Afternoon boat dive meeting times:
- Port Bonaire: 13:45 PM.

The assigned meeting location will be stated in the guest's reservation. Guests are responsible for checking their reservation and arriving at the correct port on time.
Dive Friends Bonaire boats operate on a strict schedule. Failure to arrive on time may result in missing the boat's departure. Missed boat departures due to late arrival are not eligible for refunds or future credit.
Rescheduling a missed dive is subject to availability and may be decided by Front Desk staff, with managers having the final operational say.
Upon arrival at the meeting location, the Dive Friends Bonaire team will brief guests on safety guidelines on board. Guests are responsible for paying attention during the briefing and asking questions if anything is unclear.
Guests must follow all instructions from the boat captain, crew, dive guides, instructors, and staff. The boat captain has final authority on board the vessel.
When guests experience seasickness, Dive Friends Bonaire will do its best to accommodate them as reasonably possible without impacting the experience, schedule, or safety of other guests. In extreme cases, the boat captain has final say regarding the solution.
Seasickness preventive medicine may be available for purchase in Dive Friends Bonaire shops. Guests are responsible for determining whether such medicine is suitable for them and should consult a medical professional where needed.
17. Courses and training
Dive Friends Bonaire is a PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Center and follows PADI standards at all times.
Students must meet all prerequisites, age requirements, medical requirements, performance requirements, knowledge development requirements, water skill requirements, and safety standards applicable to the course or program.
Certification is not guaranteed by payment or attendance alone. Certification depends on the student meeting all required performance, knowledge, safety, skill, attitude, and PADI standards.
Instructors may withhold certification, stop training, require additional training, or refuse participation if a student does not meet required standards or is considered unsafe.
eLearning and study requirements
PADI course eLearning may be purchased by the guest individually or through Dive Friends Bonaire.
All required eLearning, knowledge development, homework, and other study requirements must be completed before the start of the course, unless Dive Friends Bonaire staff confirm otherwise in writing.
If a guest purchases eLearning individually, the guest is responsible for ensuring that the correct eLearning product is purchased, activated, accessible, and completed before the course starts.
Refunds for PADI eLearning, Avelo Online Training, and other digital learning materials are not possible once purchased, issued, assigned, activated, or otherwise made available to the guest.
Medical documents and clearance
All required medical documents and medical clearance must be completed before the course starts.
If a student does not provide completed medical documents or required doctor’s approval before the course starts, the student may not be able to participate. In that case, the refund and rescheduling rules in these Terms & Conditions apply.
Late arrivals and missed sessions
Late arrivals for courses and/or missed course sessions are handled according to the refund and rescheduling policy in these Terms & Conditions.
Dive Friends Bonaire may reschedule missed or delayed sessions where possible, subject to instructor availability, course schedule, weather, safety, logistics, and the guest’s travel timeline.
Incomplete courses due to medical or physical issues
If a course cannot be completed due to ear problems, equalization problems, illness, medical conditions, physical limitations, anxiety, discomfort, or other circumstances outside Dive Friends Bonaire’s control or responsibility, Dive Friends Bonaire will always try to reschedule where reasonably possible.
Rescheduling is subject to availability, instructor schedules, course requirements, timing, logistics, and the guest’s travel timeline.
If rescheduling is not possible due to availability, timing, travel plans, medical reasons, course requirements, or other circumstances outside Dive Friends Bonaire’s control, the guest is not entitled to a refund unless Dive Friends Bonaire expressly agrees otherwise in writing.
Dive Friends Bonaire values each guest’s diving experience and will always make reasonable efforts to accommodate guests where possible.
Additional training fees
Any additional training, extra sessions, private instruction, remedial training, repeated skills, additional dives, additional materials, or other training required beyond the originally booked course is not included in the original course price unless expressly stated in writing.

Guests must not rent, lend, transfer, modify, tamper with, alter, or allow another person to use Dive Friends Bonaire rental equipment without permission.
Guests remain responsible for rental equipment from the time it is issued until it is returned and accepted by Dive Friends Bonaire.
19. Rental equipment damage, loss, and late return
Guests are responsible for all rental equipment issued to them from the time it is issued until it is returned and accepted by Dive Friends Bonaire.
Guests will be charged for lost, stolen, damaged, misused, incomplete, or unreturned rental equipment. Charges may include repair costs, cleaning costs, replacement costs, missing accessory costs, and other reasonable costs incurred by Dive Friends Bonaire.
Dive Friends Bonaire may inspect returned equipment before accepting return. Damage or missing items discovered after return may still be charged to the guest where Dive Friends Bonaire reasonably determines that the damage or loss occurred during the rental period.
Equipment returned after 8:15 AM will be charged one full additional rental day per item unless stated otherwise by Dive Friends Bonaire staff.
Lost or damaged rental equipment is the responsibility of the renting guest, and the guest must pay the full repair or replacement value for each affected item, with the repairability, replacement requirement, and applicable value to be determined by Dive Friends Bonaire’s Service Technician and Dive Retail Manager.
20. Customer-owned equipment and valet assistance
Guests using their own equipment are responsible for ensuring that it is complete, suitable, correctly assembled, properly maintained, serviced, safe, and appropriate for the planned activity.
Dive Friends Bonaire may refuse participation or require equipment replacement if staff consider customer-owned equipment unsafe, incomplete, unsuitable, poorly maintained, or inappropriate for the planned activity.
Where Dive Friends Bonaire provides valet diving or equipment assistance, staff may assist with assembling, transporting, positioning, rinsing, or handling scuba equipment.
Regardless of such assistance, guests remain fully responsible for personally inspecting their equipment, confirming that it is properly assembled and functioning, conducting their own pre-dive safety check, completing buddy checks, and ensuring that all equipment is suitable before entering the water.
21. Tanks, weights, and breathing gas
Guests renting or using tanks, weights, and breathing gas are responsible for using them safely and in accordance with their certification, training, equipment, dive plan, and Dive Friends Bonaire procedures.
Tanks may be picked up or returned at any Dive Friends Bonaire location that provides tank service, unless otherwise instructed by Dive Friends Bonaire.
Guests must check tank pressure, valve compatibility, gas suitability, equipment connection, weight configuration, and overall setup before each dive.
Where enriched air, specialty gas, or any gas requiring analysis is used, the guest is responsible for completing any required gas analysis, labeling, logging, and confirmation before use, in accordance with training standards and Dive Friends Bonaire procedures.
Guests must not use tanks or gas they believe to be unsuitable, incorrectly labeled, contaminated, leaking, damaged, or unsafe.
22. Insurance
Dive insurance is optional unless expressly required for a specific activity, course, package, or service.
Dive Friends Bonaire strongly recommends that all divers have dive accident insurance or travel insurance that covers scuba diving, medical treatment, evacuation, recompression chamber treatment, trip interruption, and personal belongings.
Guests are responsible for deciding whether their insurance is suitable and sufficient for their planned activities.
Dive Friends Bonaire may provide information about DAN dive insurance or make DAN dive insurance available for purchase through a third-party provider. Any such insurance is provided under the terms and conditions of the insurer or provider. Dive Friends Bonaire is not the insurer and does not guarantee coverage, claim approval, reimbursement, or benefits.

Guests must comply with all applicable laws, STINAPA rules, Bonaire National Marine Park rules, and Dive Friends Bonaire environmental guidelines.
Guests are responsible for purchasing and carrying a valid STINAPA Nature Fee where required by applicable rules. Prices and quotes from Dive Friends Bonaire do not include the STINAPA Nature Fee unless expressly stated in writing.
Dive Friends Bonaire may request proof of a valid Nature Fee before allowing participation in activities, equipment rental, tank rental, boat diving, shore diving, snorkeling, or other services.
STINAPA rules, Nature Fee requirements, fees, exemptions, and marine park rules may change. Guests are advised to inform themselves through official STINAPA channels before and during their visit.
Guests must not touch, remove, collect, disturb, damage, feed, chase, pollute, deface, or otherwise interfere with any reef, coral, marine organism, shell, fish, or protected natural object, whether living or dead.
Guests must maintain proper buoyancy, secure all equipment, avoid contact with the reef, and follow no-touch, no-take, and leave-no-trace principles.
Failure to comply with environmental laws or marine park rules may result in refusal of services, removal from activities, reporting to the relevant authorities, fines, penalties, or other consequences under applicable law.
24. Retail sales, returns, exchanges, warranty, repairs, and service
This section applies to all retail products sold by Dive Friends Bonaire, including but not limited to dive products, snorkel products, water-sports-related products, clothing, apparel, bags, caps, accessories, and other retail items.
Retail items may be eligible for return or exchange within 30 days of purchase, provided that the guest presents a valid receipt or proof of purchase.
To be eligible for return or exchange, items must be unused, unopened where applicable, undamaged, complete, and in original condition with original packaging, tags, labels, manuals, accessories, and any included parts.
Clothing, apparel, bags, caps, and accessories must be unworn, unwashed, unused, undamaged, and returned with original tags and labels attached.
Used, opened, worn, washed, damaged, incomplete, altered, custom, special-order, or hygiene-sensitive items are not automatically eligible for refund, exchange, or future credit.
Clearance and sale items are final sale and can never be returned, exchanged, refunded, or credited.
Refunds, exchanges, or future credits for used and/or opened items may only be approved by a manager of a Dive Friends Bonaire retail store, except for clearance and sale items, which are always final sale.
Manufacturer warranty claims are subject to the manufacturer’s own warranty terms, procedures, exclusions, timelines, and approval. Dive Friends Bonaire may assist guests with warranty claims where reasonably possible, but does not guarantee manufacturer approval, replacement, repair, refund, or credit.
Equipment repair, maintenance, or service work, where offered, is subject to separate intake, inspection, estimate, timing, and service conditions.

Refusal, suspension, or termination of service under this section does not automatically entitle the guest to a refund, credit, or rescheduling.
28. Third-party services, fees, and external providers
Dive Friends Bonaire is not responsible for third-party fees, taxes, permits, insurance products, payment processing services, government charges, park fees, travel arrangements, accommodation, transport, or external platforms, except where required by applicable law.
Where Dive Friends Bonaire provides information about third-party services or products, such as insurance, park fees, government fees, or external providers, those third-party services remain subject to the terms, conditions, fees, exclusions, and procedures of the relevant third party.
