Eco-diving in Bonaire

Make every dive count

Scuba diving opens a window into a breathtaking underwater world, but it also brings a responsibility to protect it. That’s where eco-diving comes in. At Dive Friends Bonaire, we believe every diver can be a force for good. Whether you’re restoring coral reefs, removing ocean debris, or protecting endangered species, eco-diving lets you make a meaningful impact while doing what you love.

Why Eco-Diving Matters

Oceans are facing increasing threats from pollution, climate change, invasive species, and habitat destruction. Coral reefs, which support 25% of marine life, are especially vulnerable. As divers, we witness these changes firsthand and we’re uniquely positioned to help. Eco-diving transforms your dive into a conservation mission, helping to protect and restore our marine environment for generations to come.

Eco-diving specialty courses

Dive Friends Bonaire is proud to offer a range of specialty courses that let you dive with purpose.

Take an active role in reef restoration through our Reef Renewal Specialty. You’ll learn how to care for coral nurseries, clean coral trees, and out plant coral fragments onto the reef. It’s a hands-on, educational experience that helps restore Bonaire’s coral reef health. By the end of the course, you will be part of the network of volunteers for Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire. You will have the option to join in future dives as a volunteer whenever you return to Bonaire.

Participate in our Sea Turtle Conservation Specialty, the only PADI Distinctive Sea Turtle Specialty in the world. Contribute to the protection of these gentle and ancient creatures that are vital in maintaining the health of the marine ecosystem. You’ll learn about local turtle species, nesting patterns, and conservation efforts in collaboration with Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire.

Lionfish are invasive predators with no natural enemies in the Caribbean. They have a big appetite and eat a huge number of small foish, shrimp and juvenile reef species, that are crucial to reef health. This, combined with the fact that they reproduce rapidly, means they pose a real threat to Bonaire’s reefs.

Our Lionfish Hunter specialty course trains divers to safely and responsibly catch and remove lionfish, helping to protect native reef fish and coral systems.

Gain an understanding of how to keep dive sites healty, remove plastic and other trash from the reef, and learn how to document your findings in a global database. This is the perfect specialty if you have a passion for ocean conservation.

These courses deepen your understanding of marine ecosystems and equip you with the skills to become an ocean advocate.

One dive at a time

At Dive Friends Bonaire, eco-diving is at the heart of what we do. Whether you’re new to conservation or looking to expand your impact, we invite you to join us in protecting our underwater world. With every eco-dive, you contribute to a healthier ocean and a more sustainable future.
