Meet the crew at Dive Friends Bonaire

  • Pascal
    General Manager

    Originally from Belgium, Pascal has lived and worked on Bonaire for over 20 years and has been in the diving industry for over 30 with over 5,000 hours underwater as a sports diver, dive instructor and commercial diver and taught hundreds of recreational divers.


  • Judith

    Judith Abdul came to work for Dive Friends Bonaire as an administrator and later as a bookkeeper. Judith has been doing this work since 1993. During the years, Judith has amassed lots of experience. She likes her job and also enjoys interacting with all the people around her. Judith lives on Bonaire with her husband. Her two daughters are away studying in The Netherlands.

    Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After 8 years of serving the army Daniel decided to make his passion into a job. Before arriving in Bonaire he was teaching in Thailand, Indonesia and the Bahamas. Daniel loves the fact once you’re underwater, you’re only busy with enjoying the moment and nothing else.

    Alex grew up in the shadow of the Heineken (favorite beer) Brewery in the Netherlands where he worked for several years. He has worked in Menorca, L’Escala, Playa del Carmen, Xcalak, Saba and Tortola. He enjoys first time divers just as much as helping divers improve during technical training.

    Alexandra has been diving since 2008 with her first dives in Curacao. She is from the Netherlands and misses her family back home but likes the relaxed atmosphere in Bonaire and the people at Dive Friends Bonaire. She can usually be found at the Hamlet Oasis location.

    From the US, Devin grew up in the water and learned to dive in a cold dark spring over 600 miles from the nearest ocean. Besides Bonaire he has lived and worked in Guatemala, Brazil, Taiwan, and Honduras and speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese. He loves Bonaire for the freedom of shore diving and quiet island life.

    Ilsa has an English father and Dutch mother but grew up mostly in Canada. Since 1996 she has been traveling and diving around the world including 10 years sailing the Caribbean. She loves working at Dive Friends Bonaire where everyone truly is a friend.

    From the Netherlands, Martin started diving in 1991 and first came to Bonaire to dive in 1995. After 20 years working in a bakery, it was time to for a change and he came to Bonaire to work as an instructor. You can find Martin at the Port Bonaire location.

    From the Netherlands, Robert’s first dives were in a swimming pool in the Netherlands and then here in Bonaire. His favorite part of the job is the variety and teaching courses from Open Water to specialities. Favorite part of Bonaire is the relaxed life and warm waters but he misses his daughter and BigMacs from back home.

    Alex was born in California but she learned to dive 4.5 years ago, in the cold waters of the Virginian quarries. She fell in love with the feeling of being underwater and also the silence (no one is talking!). Eventually she decided to move on to warmer waters and completed her IDC in Honduras. She loves working at Dive Friends because the crew is so diverse. Her favorite Bonaire sea creature is the Ocean trigger fish.

    Alexander was born in Anchorage, Alaska but left at a young age and has lived numerous different countries and states. He began diving at age 12 and discovered a passion for diving and has since attained his PADI open water scuba instructor’s certification along with numerous specialties instructor’s licenses. Now living his dream on Bonaire, he is a calm and enthusiastic diver who loves to help provide a unique and fun experience.

    Antonia was born and raised on Bonaire and has been working with Dive Friends Bonaire for over 13 years. She believes the most important thing is how you treat the customers. She enjoys speaking with customers and telling them everything about the products. She likes to treats everyone with love and respect and keep them returning year after year.

    David is from Barcelona where he began free diving at 14. He fell in love with the ocean and took up scuba diving in his early 20s. Within a few years, he was a dive instructor and has worked all over the world. He loves the feeling of weightlessness in the water and enjoys sharing this with his students.

    Darcy was born in Curacao and first learned to dive there at the Sea Aquarium in 1997. He has been diving ever since and working in the dive industry at various dive shops in Curacao. He moved his family to Bonaire and now has been working for Dive Friends for over a year.

    From Baarlo NL, Davy started diving while traveling around Australia. He was drawn towards the “instructor life” and completed his IDC with Dive Friends Bonaire. He is happy to turn his hobby into his work. Davy loves the freedom of diving in Bonaire; grab a tank and go! and being able to BBQ every day.

    ET is from Bonaire and has spent his life around the water. His grandmother was a diver and needed a buddy so he learned to dive from her. He quickly fell in love with diving and wanted to take his skills to the next level so he worked his way up to Divemaster. He loves joking with our customers to make them smile and feel at home.

    Born in Nigeria, Gift grew up in Italy and speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish! A born traveler, Gift first started diving in Honduras where she became hooked on the feeling of flying, as well as the colorful beauty underwater. A warm and friendly person herself, Gift identifies with the great weather and lovely people she meets on Bonaire.

    Ivo is from the Netherlands and grew up watching fish in the fish tank next to his bed. Once he was 18 and could drive, Ivo drove himself to another town for classes and became certified. He loves that he can meet others with the same hobby and teach new people how to dive; watching them grow and become better divers.

    Jason is from Curacao but started diving here on Bonaire. He would go snorkeling and see all the fish but wanted to go deeper and get closer. Now he can get closer and find new fish on each dive. He likes helping and meeting divers from all over the world. You can find him filling tanks at our Port Bonaire or Yellow Submarine locations.

    Jeffrey is from the Netherlands and learned to dive there when he was only 12. Before coming to Bonaire, he worked he worked at his father’s dive school in the Netherlands. Jeffrey likes the tranquility of being under the water and Bonaire is perfect because it is so easy to dive and has great underwater life.

    Jeroen is originally from Brabant in the Netherlands. After 30 years of working in restaurants and bars, he decided to change his life. He always loved to play on and in the water so scuba diving was the logical next step. He has since turned his weekend hobby into a new carrier on Bonaire. He enjoys his work as a divemaster with the DFB team and he enjoys learning new things daily.

    Jesika grew up in the Yukon, Canada before moving to the Netherlands to do her PhD and discovered both the Dutch Antilles as well as her passion for diving. She had a long love affair with Bonaire before finally moving to the most beautiful place on Earth and she definitely does not miss the weather back home. Although the days are very busy, every day is different and she loves seeing her students smile.

    Joan was born on Bonaire and she has lived her whole life here. She has worked in a dive shop for the past 16 years and she still loves every day. She enjoys seeing how happy all the divers are when they come back from their dives. She loves to help people and she always greets the customers with a big smile. She likes to spend her free time with her friends and lovely family.

    Joost is from the Netherlands. After having lived and worked in Asia and Australia for the past 5 years he decided to make the jump to the other side of the world to try his luck. He loves the silence deep down and never gets bored of what the oceans have to offer us. Every dive is a good dive!

    Larry is Canadian and he learned to dive almost 20 years ago in the freezing mountain lakes of Canada. He has been lucky enough to dive all over the world but he found that he kept coming back to Bonaire. After several trips, he eventually decided to move here permanently in 2012. He particularly loves the challenge of very deep technical dives to remove the lion fish hiding at those depths. He can make a delicious bacon-lionfish on the BBQ!

    Lliane is from Bonaire and likes making home made ice cream, gardening, reading, and dancing. She loves to talk with customers and meeting and speaking with people from many different cultures all over the world. She speaks Dutch, English, and Papiamentu and enjoys making use of her many languages in serving these customers.

    Luis is from Venezuela and grew up on the ocean working with his family. He loves diving so much he went from Open Water to Divemaster with Dive Friends. Luis loves the peace and freedom underwater, and every day finding new things. Above the water he likes rock climbing and riding motorcycles. Luis also speaks Spanish and Papiamento.

    Luke is originally from the UK and he has been diving since he was 12 years old. During his universities studies, he did marine research on the island of Martinique which confirmed his love for the underwater world. He then decided to become a dive instructor so he could share his passion with others and has since working in Thailand, Greece and now Bonaire!

    Peter grew up in the north of the Netherlands. When he was 20, he learned to dive on vacation in Bonaire. He fell in love with Bonaire and the diving life style. Within a few years, he decided to change his life and make the big move to Bonaire, where he then became a diving instructor. Two years on, he still loves his new life on Bonaire. He also loves to share it with his students and to teach them about our beautiful underwater environment.

    Shaun was born and raised on Bonaire so he has been swimming and snorkeling his whole life. He started diving when he was 12 years old and loves the feeling of being able to breath underwater. As soon as he turned 18, he completed the divemaster course so he could share his love of diving with others. He loves to meet new people and talk to guests from all over the world.

    Travis is originally from Atlanta, Georgia the USA. He started diving in 2000 when he was just 12 years old. He really enjoys finding unusual fish and coral on the reef. He loves to teach because he wants everyone to be able to see the underwater world. Bonaire is perfect for this as it is so easy to dive here. His favourite fish is the Porcupine fish.

    Veer discovered Bonaire on vacation. At that time, she was terrified of the water and did not even dare to snorkel. When she returned home, she realised that she had fallen in love with Bonaire and decided to move here. Before moving she conquered her fear getting certified in the Netherlands! Being on the reef is like being in a fairy tale with all the strange colours and shapes.

    Zara started diving in the cold quarries in Pennsylvania when she was 15 and hasn’t stopped since. She has a passion for Marine Biology and loves trying to spot and learn about new species. She especially loves turtles and seeing a baby one can make the whole week.
